Who Alabama football lost in extra transfer portal window after CFP

The extra transfer portal window Alabama players received due to participating in the College Football Playoff has closed. That means undergraduate members of the Crimson Tide won’t be able to enter the portal until April in most circumstances.

As expected, the Tide saw some attrition. Overall, 11 Alabama players hit the portal since the season ended, joining another five who entered before the loss to Michigan in the CFP semifinals.

Here’s the UA players who entered the portal during the various windows, and where they’re heading, if that’s known.

Entered portal before end of season

Thaiu Jones-Bell– Wide receiver

Jones-Bell wasn’t on Alabama’s roster for the 2023 season, due to taking a medical year. He entered the portal as soon as the December window opened.

Tyler Buchner– Quarterback (Notre Dame lacrosse)

Buchner battled for Alabama’s starting quarterback job early in the year but took a seat behind Jalen Milroe after struggling at South Florida. He’ll head back to his previous school, Notre Dame, to play a new sport.

Ja’Corey Brooks– Wide receiver (Louisville)

Brooks dealt with injuries throughout the season. He’s off to Louisville.

Isaiah Hastings– Defensive lineman

Another Alabama player who entered the portal before the postseason. Hastings played in just one game during his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, making one tackle against ULM in 2022.

Anquin Barnes– Defensive lineman (Colorado)

Barnes played in two games for Alabama this season, against Middle Tennessee State and Chattanooga. He will join coach Deion Sanders at Colorado.

Entered portal since season ended

Shazz Preston– Wide receiver

Preston mostly played special teams for the Crimson Tide. He spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa, with no catches.

Miles Kitselman– Tight end

Kitselman was a junior college addition to Alabama before the 2022 season. He saw action in 13 games, including the Rose Bowl.

Seth McLaughlin– Center (Ohio State)

After struggling in the Rose Bowl, Alabama’s starting center opted to enter the portal. He earned interest from multiple Power 5 programs and ended up committing to Ohio State.

Terrence Ferguson II– Offensive lineman

Ferguson, who can play both center and guard, saw action in six games for Alabama this season. He is reportedly visiting Florida State.

Eli Holstein– Quarterback (Pittsburgh)

Holstein did not see the field during the 2023 season. He announced his transfer to Pitt on Sunday.

Kristian Story– Defensive back

Story was a major contributor at DB for Alabama, as well as a key member of the special teams unit. He finished the year with 15 tackles and an interception.

Monkell Goodwine– Defensive lineman

Goodwine was a redshirt sophomore for the Crimson Tide this season. He played in two games, against MTSU and Mississippi State.

Malik Benson– Wide receiver

The speedy receiver, who transferred to Alabama from the junior college level before the 2023 season, entered the portal after the Michigan game. He finished the year with 13 catches for 162 yards and a touchdown.

Earl Little II– Defensive back (Florida State)

Little, who suffered through shoulder injuries throughout his time in Tuscaloosa, never became a major contributor on defense for the Tide. He committed to Florida State on Saturday.

Ian Jackson– Linebacker

Jackson did not see the field for Alabama in 2023. He played in three games on special teams in 2022 after redshirting the 2021 campaign.

Roydell Williams– Running back

Williams was one of Alabama’s main contributors at running back this season. He finished the year with 560 yards rushing, along with five touchdowns.

Jake Pope– Defensive back

Pope was a four-star safety prospect in the class of 2022. He was a depth piece for Alabama in 2023, playing in 11 games.
