Vehicle wrecks into Fairfield home; driver found dead from multiple gunshot wounds

Gunfire in Fairfield Saturday left one man dead inside a crashed vehicle.

Just before 5 p.m., Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to what was initially reported as a traffic crash in the 800 block of Beacon Drive.

Sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said deputies located a Jeep Cherokee that had struck a home.

Further investigation showed the driver had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Money said detectives have not yet identified a motive.

The killing was one of two that happened just minutes apart on opposite ends of the county.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Birmingham police responded to a shooting on the city’s east side. They found a man dead inside a home, believed to be the victim of a carjacking.
