Former Troy linebacker Jayden McDonald headed to Big Ten

Former Troy linebacker Jayden McDonald has committed to Indiana, he announced Friday.

McDonald led the Trojans with 75 tackles in 2023, along with 9.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. The Suwanee, Ga., native has one season of eligibility remaining.

McDonald began his career in the Big Ten at Iowa, redshirting in 2019 before transferring to Troy in 2020. He missed half of the 2021 season and all but two games in 2022 due to injury, but stayed healthy for all 13 games this past season.

McDonald is among several Troy players who have entered the portal since the end of the season, including wide receiver Jabre Barber, offensive tackle Derrick Graham, safety Caleb Ransaw and defensive end T.J. Jackson. Two other non-seniors — running back Kimani Vidal and outside linebacker Javon Solomon — entered the NFL draft.
