Who was the Huntsville area Player of the Week?
As Huntsville area high schools return to the basketball court after the holidays, AL.com is looking back to determine who the top performers were from the last week of 2023. Several holiday tournaments served as showcases for talented boys and girls players from the area.
Here are the top 5:
5. JD Gossett, Huntsville. The 6-foot-5 junior guard scored 59 points in four games in the Huntsville City Classic, including the clinching two free throws with less than one second remaining in the 61-60 championship game win over Austin.
4. Abethany James, Sparkman. The 5-7 senior point scored 38 points in three games last week. She is averaging 10 points a game for coach Jarvis Wilson’s 12-6 Senators, who were ranked second in Class 7A in the first Alabama Sports Writers Association poll.
3. Bryce Mason, James Clemens. Mason, a 6-3 senior guard, scored 61 points for the 12-6 Jets in the Huntsville City Classic. He scored 24 and hauled down 10 rebounds in a 49-47 thriller over Mae Jemison.
