Holmon Wiggins’ new job will come with a new title. Texas A&M confirmed the addition of Wiggins to first-year head coach Mike Elko’s staff on Wednesday night. Wiggins will be wide receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator.

Wiggins held the same role leading wideouts under Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa, in addition to being assistant head coach of the offense. With the Aggies, Wiggins will be paired with Collin Klein, who previously ran Kansas Statee’s offense after failing to make a run at Mike Denbrock of LSU.

Elko, who was at Duke, sought after plenty of SEC influence in building his staff. In addition to Wiiggins, A&M is bringing in Jay Batman from Florida to run the defense and Auburn’s Wesley McGriff to coach the secondary. Alabama currently has two openings on staff: Wiggins’ role and special teams coordinator-outside linebackers coach, which had been previously occupied by Coleman Hutzler (Mississippi State).

A&M’s bio for Wiggins applauds the extensive work he did for the Tide, like helping DeVonta Smith’s nearly 2,000-yard, 20-plus touchdown 2020 season. Jameson Williams and John Metchie became the second pair of UA wideouts to surpass 1,000 yards in the same campaign in 2021. Overall, across Wiggins’ five years in Tuscaloosa, five Alabama pass-catchers were selected in the first round of the NFL Draft.

In addition to his coaching acumen, Wiggins’ ability as a recruiter will also be missed. He helped secure multiple five-star commitments, including two in the class of 2024: Julian Sayin (enrolled) and Ryan Williams (signing in February).
