Missing 97-year-old New Orleans man found dead under Alabama overpass

A 97-year-old man missing from New Orleans has been found dead under an Alabama overpass, according to Creola police chief Shane Stringer.

The New Orleans Police Department had sent out a missing and endangered person’s alert region after Williams went missing. New Orleans police said Williams may have suffered from a condition which impaired his judgment.

After last being seen in New Orleans New Year’s Eve, New Orleans police contacted Creola police Wednesday evening after picking up a signal from Williams’ cellphone in the area. Williams’ vehicle was found late Wednesday night abandoned along Interstate 65 in Creola, located about 16 miles north of Mobile.

By Thursday morning, Williams’ body had been found underneath the I-65 overpass across Highway 43.

Stringer said it appeared Williams had exited his vehicle and walked about 30 yards before falling down a steep embankment near the overpass. Foul play is not suspected.
