Alabama football continued losing depth at key positions on Wednesday as players took full advantage of the extended transfer portal afforded by UA’s run to the College Football Playoff.

Kristian Story will be leaving Tuscaloosa, his father, Clifford Story, confirmed to AL.com. On3′s Matt Zenitz was the first to report the news. Story was the 10th UA player to enter the portal after losing to Michigan in the Rose Bowl. Along with starting center Seth McLaughlin, Story is one of the more notable players eyeing a new home.

Story, from Lannett, was in his fourth year with UA after winning a state championship in 2019 and being named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year. Story transitioned to defensive back, making his first appearance on special teams in the 2021 opener against Miami. Story’s younger brother, Caden Story, is a defensive lineman at Clemson.

Story remained a rotation player throughout his time in Tuscaloosa. But the quick learning of transfers Jaylen Key (UAB) and Trey Amos (Utah), along with star freshman safety Caleb Downs, pushed Story further below the depth chart. He filled in when injuries occurred, yet the breakout season Story wanted to prove didn’t get a chance to manifest.

Story appeared in 36 games over his career with the Crimson Tide. He made 22 total tackles, including one for a loss. His lone interception came against Chattanooga. He also recorded a pass breakup against Georgia in the SEC Championship game.
