LSU fires DC Matt House after 2 seasons, other changes made

Defensive coordinator Matt House is out at LSU, along with other coaches on that side of the ball.

Cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples, safeties coach Kerry Cooks and defensive line coach Jimmy Lindsey also were fired.

“I want to thank each of these coaches for their work on behalf of our football program and our institution during their time here,” LSU coach Brian Kelly said in a statement Thursday, per NOLA.com. “Decisions like these are always difficult, and we do not make them lightly, but they are made with the best interests of our program and our student-athletes in mind.”

LSU (10-3) finished the season Monday with a 35-31 win over Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

The Tigers ranked 108th nationally in total defense this season, which was in stark contrast to the offense – led by Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels – that ranked No. 1 nationally in scoring. In addition, LSU gave up 6.14 yards per play.
