Auburn adds another transfer OT
Gunner Britton will play his last year of college football on the Plains.
After a mid-week visit, the former Western Kentucky offensive tackle and South Carolina native announced his new school via Twitter. A two-star prospect, Britton appeared in 27 of the Hilltoppers’ 28 games the last two seasons, recently earning a spot on the All-Conference USA Second Team.
Britton is the second transfer tackle to join Hugh Freeze and co. Dillion Wade committed on Dec. 23 from Tulsa. Per Pro Football Focus, Britton was the fifth-best pass-blocking tackle in the country in the 2022-23 season with an 87.0 win rate. The 6-foot-6, 275-pounder helped convert a fourth down with his legs, showing some athleticism.
Britton is the sixth new offensive lineman that’ll try to help Freeze’s offense roll next fall. Many of the high school signees appear to be either projects or interior pieces to start their careers, as Freeze alluded to during signing day. With JUCO standout Izavion Miller, Wade and now Britton, there should be options for position coach Jake Thornton to rework the starting tackle rotation.
Freeze alluded to the signing on his personal Twitter account earlier Thursday evening. He posted a photo after catching a big fish, a seemingly emerging trend for his targets on the recruiting trail.
