Truck crashes into Brighton police car while officer running radar on Bessemer Super Highway
A Brighton police officer was briefly trapped inside his vehicle after he was struck while running radar in western Jefferson County.
The crash happened at 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Bessemer Super Highway.
Brighton Assistant Fire Chief Kenneth Hooten, who is also a Brighton police lieutenant, said the officer was parked in the median facing northbound when a pickup truck leaving the Sunoco crashed into the officer’s cruiser.
The impact spun the police car.
Brighton firefighters were able to free the officer from his damaged vehicle. He sustained minor injuries to his forehead and was taken to a hospital to be treated.
The driver who struck the officer stayed on the scene.
The investigation is ongoing by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
