A pedestrian is in the hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle less than a mile from the Bankhead Tunnel on Thursday evening, according to Mobile police.

Officers responded at 6:13 p.m. to an incident involving a southbound vehicle striking a man riding a bicycle near the 500 block of Cochrane Causeway, which is just off U.S. Highway 98.

The bicyclist was transported to the hospital for serious injuries, police said. Authorities did not report his current status.

The driver remained at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

It’s the second time a cyclist has been hit in traffic this week in the city. A man was killed after being struck by two vehicles on U.S. 90 in Mobile early Wednesday morning.
