Hewitt-Trussville’s Kenleigh Cahalan enrolls early to play softball with Crimson Tide
Alabama softball signee Kenleigh Cahalan of Hewitt-Trussville has enrolled for the spring semester and will play this season for the Crimson Tide.
Cahalan was selected Miss Softball as a junior following the 2022 season and ranked the top 2023 player in the nation by Perfect Game Softball.
“We are so excited to add Kenleigh to our roster this spring,” Tide head coach Patrick Murphy said in a press release. “She had a great high school and summer ball career culminating in a PGF national championship last summer. She can play anywhere on the field and has a strong lefty bat. She will make us better immediately.”
Cahalan was also named Class 7A Player of the Year after the left-handed infielder batted .549 with 13 home runs, 66 RBIs, 71 runs, 22 doubles, 5 triples and AHSAA-leading 52 walks. Her .678 on-base and 1.713 OPS led Class 7A while striking out only 7 times in 144 at-bats.
She helped Hewitt-Trussville to the past three state championship games, winning the title in 2019 and 2021 — there was no softball season in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic — before falling to Thompson in the 2022 championship.
Cahalan was also MaxPreps state Player of the Year and a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year finalist as well as a two-time PGF and MaxPreps All-American.
She played summer softball with the Birmingham Thunderbolts, which won the 2022 PGF 18U National Championship. Incoming Crimson Tide freshmen Marlie Giles and Larissa Preuitt were also part of the team.
