Student found with gun at Huntsville’s Lee/New Century High School
A Huntsville City Schools student was found with a firearm on campus, school officials said.
The incident happened this morning at Lee/New Century High School. According to an announcement from the school, the weapon was immediately confiscated.
“We thank our HCS Security team and school resource officers for their fast response,” the announcement stated, saying the student will face disciplinary action according to the district’s Behavioral Learning Guide.
It’s the third such incident in a year’s time in Huntsville. In October, students at McDonnell Elementary discharged a weapon while handling it in a restroom. And last February, one student suffered a non-life threatening self-inflicted wound in an incident at Sonnie Hereford Elementary.
In an announcement to families and staff, school officials urged action to prevent further incidents.
“We ask families for their support in ensuring students are unable to access weapons of any kind, and please report any suspicious or unusual activity to a teacher or administrator,” the announcement stated.
