College Football Playoff exact result odds: Alabama defeats Texas in the National Championship (+400 or better)

The Crimson Tide taking down the Longhorns in the CFP title game is the second-most likely outcome from an odds standpoint. The CFP exact result odds leader is Michigan beating Texas at +370.

It was doom and gloom in Tuscaloosa after the Longhorns came into Bryant-Denny Stadium and walked out with a 10-point victory. But Alabama has improved immensely since the early setback, and hypothetical National Championship odds markets list the Tide as a 2.5-point favorite if they meet the Longhorns again.

However, the Crimson Tide were a touchdown favorite in Week 2 vs. Texas and fell short by double digits. But the Alabama faithful should feel confident in their team if they meet Texas again.

Alabama didn’t get enough pressure on Quinn Ewers in the first game, recording no sacks, which led to solid performances from star pass-catchers Ja’Tavion Sanders, Adonai Mitchell, and Xavier Worthy. The Tide’s defensive line has been unblockable since, tallying the 10th-most sacks in FBS.

A failure to establish the run was also problematic for Alabama in round one. Nick Saban’s squad picked up 107 yards on the ground but gained just 3.1 yards a pop. The offensive line struggled early in the year but has come a long way, capped off with a strong showing in the SEC Championship.

Jalen Milroe’s two interceptions resulted in 10 points for the Longhorns, and his growth has also been off the charts. Milroe has a 10/1 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the previous five games.

Alabama is leaps and bounds better than what we saw against Texas the first time around and stands a much greater chance of winning if the two square off in the National Championship.

The Longhorns are hitting their stride at the perfect time. In Week 13, Texas shellacked Texas Tech 57-7 before defeating Oklahoma State 49-21 in the Big 12 Championship.

If Alabama can successfully pressure Ewers with four rushers, Quinn will be in for a long day. But if Texas can protect the QB as they did in Week 2, the Crimson Tide will be forced to manufacture pressure by bringing extra rushers, which may open the door for explosive plays by the Longhorns.

Texas is well-equipped to defend Alabama’s rushing attack, as UT ranks fifth in FBS against the run. Making the Crimson Tide move the ball through the air could lead Milroe to regress to the Jalen fans saw in the first half of the season.

For that to happen, the Longhorns must also replicate its pass-rushing efforts from Week 2. UT sacked Milroe twice, and Jalen was the sixth most-sacked QB in college football.

While Alabama has shown significant improvement as the season has progressed, Texas has been the same dominant team from the start.
