South Alabama signee Fluff Bothwell loses home in Christmas Eve fire

South Alabama signee Fluff Bothwell’s Oneonta home was destroyed by fire on Christmas Eve.

Everyone in the family is safe, according to Oneonta High coach Phil Phillips, but the Bothwell’s lost everything.

According to a post by the Oneonta police department, Bothwell’s house on Jackson Avenue was completely destroyed by a structure fire and “it was a total loss with very little property saved.”

Bothwell, a running back and linebacker for the Redskins, signed with South Alabama last week.

He is a two-time, first-team Class 4A All-State selection.

As a senior, Bothwell (6-0, 218) rushed for 2,031 yards and 32 touchdowns on 208 carries. He had 132 tackles on defense, including 18 for a loss. He also was named North MVP for the North-South All-Star football game.

He was named Class 4A Back of the Year as a junior.
