Man on scooter critically injured in Birmingham hit-and-run last month has now died

A man riding a scooter who was critically injured in a hit-and-run last month has now died.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim as Michael Alan King. He was 58 and lived in Birmingham.

Police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 22 to 28th Street and Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard North on a report of a pedestrian struck. The victim’s scooter was found in the intersection.

Authorities said the man was unresponsive when first responders arrived on the scene. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead Saturday, Dec. 23, at 11:51 p.m.

The crash was caught on video from a nearby business and showed King traveling down a small hill and being struck by a vehicle that continued on.

No arrests have been announced.
