Hugh Freeze, Auburn flip 4-star defensive lineman Amaris Williams away from Florida

Well, they did it again.

Hugh Freeze and the Tigers successfully flipped another recruit away from another SEC program.

This time, it came on early signing day and in the shape of Amaris Williams, a 4-star defensive lineman who has spent the last six months committed to Billy Napier and the Florida Gators.

Williams announced his flip to Auburn during his signing ceremony Wednesday afternoon, meaning Freeze has flipped two prospects away from Florida — Williams and Jamonta Waller, who flipped in November.

Williams, who ranks as the No. 1 recruit in the state of North Carolina, began trending to the Tigers after taking an official visit to Auburn on Dec. 10.

Despite it being his first visit to The Plains, Williams left with a good impression.

“Auburn has a big chance right now,” Williams told 247Sports’ Christian Clemente.

Measuring 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, Williams ranks as the 11th-best defensive line prospect in the 2024 class, according to 247Sports. Throughout his commitment, Williams garnered offers from Georgia, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee and USC, among others.

In his senior season at Clinton High School in Clinton, N.C., Williams tallied 48 total tackles, 20 tackles for a loss, 11 sacks and a forced fumble.

With the slated addition of Williams, Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class now features four defensive linemen as Williams joins 4-star Malik Blocton, 4-star TJ Lindsey and 3-star Dimitry Nicolas. Auburn’s incoming defensive linemen are set to join returners Keldric Faulk, Quientrail Jamison-Travis, Jayson Jones, Darron Reed Jr., Justin Rogers and Zykeivous Walker.
