Bobby Petrino is returning to the SEC as offensive coordinator at Texas A&M, according to multiple reports.

ESPN’s Chris Low is reportedly that Petrino would take over playcalling duties with the Aggies. Head coach Jimbo Fisher has filled that role at both Texas A&M and Florida State.

The 61-year-old Petrino took a job Dec. 15 as offensive coordinator at UNLV, but leaves the Rebels without coaching in a game. He spent the last three seasons as head coach at Missouri State, an FCS program.

Petrino last coached in the SEC in 2011, his fourth season as head coach at Arkansas. He was fired the following spring after it was revealed he was untruthful about an extramarital affair with an athletic department staff member.

Petrino has also been head coach at Western Kentucky and twice at Louisville, in addition to a brief stint with the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. He was offensive coordinator at Auburn in 2002, and has also been an assistant at Weber State, Idaho, Arizona State, Louisville, Nevada, Utah State and with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars.

Well-regarded for his work with quarterbacks, Petrino joins a Texas A&M program that underachieved massively in 2022, going from a No. 6 preseason ranking to a 5-7 finish. Freshman Conner Weigman, a former 5-star recruit, ended the season as the Aggies’ starting quarterback.
