Reports: Troy to hire Notre Dame OC as head football coach

Troy is set to hire Notre Dame offensive coordinator Gerad Parker as its new head football coach, according to multiple reports.

The 42-year-old Parker has direct connections to the last two Trojans football coaches. He was a college teammate of Jon Sumrall at Kentucky in the early 2000s and was OC under Neal Brown at West Virginia in 2020-21 before joining the Fighting Irish.

A West Virginia native, Parker has also coached at UT Martin, Marshall, Purdue, Duke and Penn State. He served as interim coach at Purdue for the final six games of the 2016 season after Darrell Hazel was fired.

Troy was the last remaining FBS program without a head coach after Sumrall left for Tulane on Dec. 8. Sumrall led the Trojans to a 23-4 record and back-to-back Sun Belt Conference titles in his two seasons.

Troy (11-2) faces Duke (7-5) in the Birmingham Bowl on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. at Protective Stadium, with TV coverage on ABC.
