Apple Family Sharing plan settlement: Are you eligible for $30 payment?

Some Apple customers may be eligible for a payout of up to $30 as part of a class action settlement related to the Family Sharing feature.

The $25 million settlement resolves the 2019 suit Walter Peters v. Apple Inc., USA Today reported. The complaint alleged that Apple advertised for a subscription for an app that could be shared via the Family Sharing feature but “was aware that the vast majority of subscription-based Apps did not support family sharing.”

Family Sharing allows up to six users to share access to services like Apple Music, Apple TV, iTunes App Store purchases and more, Apple said on its website.

Apple denies it did anything wrong or made misleading statements regarding Family Sharing.

Who is eligible?

To be eligible, claimants must have been enrolled in Family Sharing between June 21, 2015 and Jan. 30, 2019 with at least one other person and shared a third-party app. Eligible customers will receive a notice with settlement details but, if you believe you are eligible and didn’t receive information, you can register on the settlement website.

Customers who participate in the settlement can receive up to $30 depending on the number of people who register. The deadline to opt in is March 1, 2024.
