Tuberville on Rick Scott’s fight over Florida State CFP snub: ‘A waste of time’

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville sees fellow Sen. Rick Scott, R-FL, and other Florida politicians fighting back over Florida State’s exclusion from the College Football Playoff as “a waste of time,” according to State of the Union.

Scott continues to push against what he sees as a lack of transparency from the 13-member playoff selection committee that picked 12-1 Alabama over undefeated FSU.

“I think this goes to the core point of what people think about our country right now: They think that the institutions are playing games,” Scott said.

“They went by the criteria of who played the toughest schedule — all the criteria that they had,” former Auburn football coach Tuberville said.

“There’s nobody more experienced to talk about this than me,” Tuberville added. “I got left out in 2004, and we were undefeated.”

Auburn beat five Top 15 teams in 2004. The Tigers were denied a chance of playing for the BCS title because they finished third in the standings leading up to the bowl games. Instead, Southern Cal and Oklahoma played for the title. The Trojans won 55-19.

The BCS later stripped Southern California of the title because the NCAA put the Trojans on probation for wrongdoings involving Reggie Bush in 2004.

Tuberville said he did “feel bad for Florida State” but disagreed with a pledge by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to put a million dollars into litigation over the snub.

“A million dollars? Not going to do any good,” Tuberville said.
