Alabama DL transfers to Colorado, joins Deion Sanders and former coach

Anquin Barnes is heading out west. The former Alabama football defensive lineman announced his transfer to Colorado on Sunday night.

Barnes will join Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders ahead of his second season. Colorado’s defensive coordinator Charles Kelly was with the Crimson Tide through Barnes’ commitment and his two seasons. Alabama had two of its 21 outgoing transfers in 2023 head to Colorado (Jahquez Robinson and Demouy Kennedy).

Barnes tweeted out his offers from Wisconsin and South Carolina, among others after entering the portal on Dec. 11. Barnes appeared in two games across three seasons, making one tackle. Barnes was a four-star in the class of 2021 from Montgomery, playing both defensive and offensive line.

Barnes is the third Alabama player to have their plans seemingly set for next season, joining Ja’Corey Brooks (Louisville) and Tyler Buchner (Notre Dame – lacrosse).

On Sunday, Alabama held its first practice for the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl. The No. 4 Crimson Tide will play Michigan without Barnes along with Brooks and Isaiah Hastings. The game is set for New Year’s Day in Pasadena, Calif., at 4 p.m. CT.
