Former Vanderbilt QB Walter Taylor commits to Colorado

Former Vanderbilt quarterback Walter Taylor is headed to Colorado, he announced Sunday.

Taylor, a Jackson native, played in five games for the Commodores as a redshirt freshman in 2023. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-7, 235-pound Taylor joins a Colorado program that finished 4-8 in 2023 under first-year coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders. Shedeur Sanders, the coach’s son, started at quarterback for the Buffaloes, but has just one season of eligibility remaining.

Taylor’s former Vanderbilt teammate, star receiver Will Sheppard, committed to Colorado on Saturday. The Buffaloes also added former Kentucky quarterback Destin Wade on Friday.

Taylor completed five of 15 passes for 44 yards with an interception in 2023, and rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on 30 attempts. He is one of three Vanderbilt quarterbacks who entered the transfer portal after the season, along with A.J. Swann and Ken Seals.

Rated a 3-star prospect in the Class of 2022, Taylor led Jackson to the Class 4A semifinals as a senior. He passed for 3,405 yards and 40 touchdowns while also rushing for 10 scores and was named Class 4A Back of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
