Authorities have released the name of a pedestrian who was struck and killed Monday evening in Bessemer.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Nathaniel May. He was 63 and lived in Bessemer.

The crash happened at 5:50 p.m. at 18th Avenue North and 15th Street North. May was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.

The driver stayed on the scene after the crash and is cooperating with Bessemer police.
