Ja’Corey Brooks commits to Louisville after leaving Alabama via portal

One of Alabama football’s transfer portal departures has found his new home. Wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks announced his commitment to Louisville on Friday.

Brooks shared the news on social media, along with photos of himself in a Cardinals uniform. He had announced his entry into the portal on Dec. 7.

“I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved in this remarkable program,” Brooks said in a social media post announcing his departure from Alabama. “Thank you for the memories, the friendships, and the invaluable life lessons. I am honored to have been a part of this team and I will forever carry the spirit of our football family within me.”

Brooks saw a reduced role with the Crimson Tide this season and struggled with injuries. He finished the campaign with just three catches for 30 yards, with his biggest contribution coming on a blocked punt.

He was a bigger factor in 2022, when he caught 39 passes for 674 yards and eight touchdowns. The 6-foot-2 wideout was part of the Crimson Tide’s 2021 receiving class, a five-star recruit out of IMG Academy in Florida.

Brooks joins a Louisville team that saw drastic improvement during Jeff Brohm’s first season as head coach. The Cardinals are currently 10-3, dropping their last matchup, the ACC championship, against Florida State.

Louisville will play Southern Cal in the Holiday Bowl to end the season. Brooks’ former teammates at Alabama are set for a Jan. 1 Rose Bowl matchup with No. 1 Michigan in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
