Reports: Georgia DB A.J. Harris to enter transfer portal
Freshman defensive back A.J. Harris became the latest high-profile Georgia player to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Friday, according to multiple reports.
Harris was a 5-star recruit and a Top 30 national prospect out of Central-Phenix City in the Class of 2023. He played in seven games in 2023, totaling eight tackles.
Harris appeared to acknowledge he’d entered the portal in response to a social media post from teammate Tykee Smith:
Harris joins quarterback Brock Vandagriff (who has already committed to Kentucky), edge rusher Marvin Jones Jr., linebacker Xavier Sorey and cornerback Nyland Green as recent Georgia 4- or 5-star recruits who have entered the portal in this cycle. Linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson, a preseason All-SEC pick this season, is also among 15 Bulldogs players from the 2023 roster in the portal.
Harris played on the private-school level at Glenwood School in Smiths Station until his senior year, when he transferred to Central-Phenix City. At Central, he was a teammate of current 5-star wide receiver recruit Cam Coleman, who recently flipped from Texas A&M to Auburn.
Coleman, who helped Central to the 7A state title last week, appeared to make a plea on social media Friday for Harris to follow him to Auburn:
