Former Alabama defensive back Shyheim Carter will be helping the Tennessee Titans prepare for a win-and-in game on Sunday after joining the NFL team’s practice squad for the third time.

The Titans signed Carter on Tuesday, a day after placing safety Andrew Adams on injured reserve and signing practice-squad safety Mike Brown to the active roster.

Carter joined Tennessee for the first time on Dec. 30, 2021, and stayed on the practice squad for a week. He returned to go through the offseason program, training camp and preseason with the Titans before being waived on Aug. 22.

Carter rejoined Tennessee on Oct. 4 for a six-week stay as a practice-squad member.

Tennessee visits the Jacksonville Jaguars at 7:15 p.m. CST Saturday for its regular-season finale. The winner of the game will earn the AFC South title and play at home in the first round of the postseason.

Carter entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the New York Jets in 2020. After being waived by the Jets at the end of training camp, Carter spent seven weeks on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.

In 2021, the Houston Texans released Carter at the end of the preseason, then re-signed him for their practice squad, where he spent the first five weeks of the season. After his release on Oct. 12, 2021, Carter was out of the NFL until joining Tennessee’s practice squad for the first time.

Practice-squad members are not eligible to play in game unless they are elevated. Each NFL team can elevate two practice-squad members to active status for each game.
