Ex-Coastal Carolina QB Grayson McCall headed to NC State
Former Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall will play his final season of college football at North Carolina State, he announced on Wednesday.
A native of Indian Trail, N.C., McCall was Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year in 2020, 2021 and 2022 before missing five games due to injury this past season. He has passed for 10,005 yards and 88 touchdowns with just 14 interceptions in his career, while also rushing for 1,113 yards and 11 scores.
McCall redshirted in 2019, but got a year of eligibility back for 2020 due to COVID, thus he has one season remaining. He announced his commitment to NC State via Instagram:
McCall also entered the portal after the 2022 season, and was said to be strongly considering Auburn before academic concerns caused him to stay at Coastal Carolina. As a graduate transfer this time, he will likely have no such hang-ups.
North Carolina State is losing starting quarterback Brennan Armstrong after this season. Coastal Carolina head coach Tim Beck was the Wolfpack’s offensive coordinator from 2020-22 before leading the Chanticleers to a 7-5 record in his first season this fall.
McCall is the second quarterback in two days who had been linked to Auburn to commit to another school. Duke’s Riley Leonard, a Fairhope native, announced Tuesday he is headed to Notre Dame.
