18-year-old killed in single-vehicle Alabama wreck that injured another passenger, 9, and driver, 15

An 18-year-old passenger was killed Sunday in Marengo County in a single-vehicle wreck that also injured the car’s 15-year-old driver and a 9-year-old passenger, authorities said Tuesday.

The18-year-old, who was only publicly identified as a resident of Sweet Water, was a passenger in a Chrysler 200 that left Alabama 10 near the 47-mile marker, struck a tree and caught fire around 5 p.m. Sunday, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Cpl. Reginal King.

The teen was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck, about a mile east of Dixon Mills in Marengo County.

The driver of the Chrysler, only identified as a 15-year-old from Thomasville, and a 9-year-old passenger in the car were both injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment, said King.

Further information was unavailable as state troopers continued to investigate the wreck.
