The first shooting happened July 31, 2022. Police responded about 1:30 a.m. to the Mobile service station regarding a shooting that took place in the 2800 block of Pinson Valley Parkway.

Police said two victims were disoriented and suffering from gunshot wounds sustained by bird shot at close range. Both had been off-roading on an ATV, along with a juvenile, when it happened.

No arrests were made at the time.

Then, on July 19, 2023, officers were dispatched at 7:40 p.m. to the 2800 block of Pinson Valley Parkway regarding another shooting occurring near the entrance to a business in the area.

The victim told police he was shot at once again by the same man who had shot him a year prior.

No injuries were sustained, but the victim was later able to identify the suspect.

Both cases were reopened on Dec. 10 by Cpl. Derrick James Williamson. He was able to obtain the three warrants against Gates.
