3 Auburn players named to the freshman All-SEC team
Three Auburn freshmen — center Connor Lew, kicker Alex McPherson and defensive end Keldric Faulk — were named to the freshman All-SEC team, according to a release from the league office Thursday.
Auburn’s three selections were tied with Arkansas and Texas A&M for the most in the conference.
McPherson went a perfect 13-13 on field goals and 39-39 on extra points in his first full year as a starter. His longest field goal was 53 yards. McPherson played in three games last season as he redshirted behind then-starter Anders Carlson.
He has currently made an Auburn-record 19 consecutive field goals dating back to last season.
Lew took over as Auburn’s starting center for the final five games of the season after previous starter Avery Jones was injured against Ole Miss.
He immediately became one of the nation’s highest-graded centers per Pro Football Focus, with a grade above 80 for his pass blocking.
Faulk also became a starter after an injury. Mosiah Nasili-Kite had been the starter before a season-ending bicep injury against Georgia. He finished the year with 32 tackles, including 18 solos and 2.5 tackles for loss. He frequently flashed potential as being a dominant player in years to come on Auburn’s defensive front, especially after moving from jack linebacker to defensive end during fall camp.
