Eagles release 1 of their Alabama wide receivers

The Philadelphia Eagles started Tuesday with three former Alabama wide receivers on their roster. They ended Tuesday with two.

Julio Jones and DeVonta Smith remain on the active roster, but Philadelphia has released Cam Sims from its practice squad less than one week after the Eagles signed the pass-catcher.

Philadelphia had announced the addition of Sims to its practice squad on Thursday.

When he joined the Eagles, Sims had been out of the league since Oct. 10, when the New York Giants released him from their practice squad.

Sims has not played during the 2023 season.

In 2022 during his fifth season with the Washington Commanders, Sims had eight receptions for 89 yards while on the field for 328 offensive snaps and 244 special-teams plays in 17 games.

Sims signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as a free agent in March, but Las Vegas released him when it reduced its preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53 active players on Aug. 29.

Sims joined the Giants on Sept. 4.

After catching 41 passes for 467 yards and two touchdowns in four seasons at Alabama, Sims made Washington’s regular-season roster as an undrafted rookie in 2018. But Sims sustained a season-ending injury on the opening kickoff of the first game.

Sims came back to catch 57 passes for 804 yards and three touchdowns in 54 games over the next four seasons with Washington.

Sims had two 100-yard receiving games with Washington. He caught three passes for 110 yards in a 23-20 loss to the Giants on Nov. 8, 2020, and had seven receptions for 104 yards in a 32-23 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in an NFC playoff game on Jan. 9, 2021.
