North Alabama school employee charged with sexual act with student

A Marshall County Schools employee has been arrested for engaging in a sexual act with a student under the age of 19.

Marshall County Sheriff Phil Sims said school officials and deputies received information Nov. 30 about an employee “acting inappropriately” with a student at Asbury High.

Following an investigation, Leslie Rains, 28, of Albertville, was charged. Rains was set a property bond at $25,000.

According to the school website, Rains is employed in physical education.

Attempts to reach Marshall County Schools for comment were not immediately successful.

“As soon as we received this report, my office and Marshall County school officials acting promptly to resolve this matter,” Sims said in a statement. “The individual was removed from further contact with any students during the investigation. We take the safety and protection of the students serious and when matters like this arise, we will act expeditiously.”
