USC QB Caleb Williams won’t play in Holiday Bowl

USC quarterback Caleb Williams won’t play in the Holiday Bowl vs. Louisville, head coach Lincoln Riley told reporters Monday.

It’s an expected move by Williams, the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner and the presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. He finishes his USC career having thrown for 8,172 yards and 72 touchdowns, including 3,633 yards and 30 scores this season.

Williams followed Riley from Oklahoma to USC in 2022 after finishing the 2021 season as the Sooners’ starting quarterback. The Trojans went 11-3 and played in both the Pac-12 championship game and Cotton Bowl last season, but fell off to 7-5 this year.

Redshirt sophomore Miller Moss, who played in four games this season, will likely start at quarterback for the Trojans in the Holiday Bowl, which takes place Dec. 27 in San Diego. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Fox.
