Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts to marry longtime partner Amber Laign
Marriage is on the horizon for “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts.
The anchor plans to tie the knot with longtime partner Amber Laign this year, she announced on Monday’s episode of the ABC morning show.
“I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage,” Roberts, 62, said. “We’re getting married this year. It was something we have talked about, but we had put it off.”
She made the announcement during a segment with motivational speaker Gabby Bernstein, who encouraged Roberts to manifest what she wants in 2023.
Roberts began dating Laign in 2005, according to People. She didn’t reveal a date or any specific plans for their wedding.
The “GMA” host and the massage therapist both dealt with health issues during their relationship. Roberts was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, then with the blood condition myleodysplastic syndrome in 2012, requiring a bone-marrow transplant.
Roberts called Laign her “long time girlfriend” in a 2013 Facebook post reflecting on her health journey. It was her first public acknowledgment both of her sexual orientation and their relationship.
Laign was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2021 and finished radiation treatment in July.
“Sweet Amber completing radiation, a very important phase of her treatment!” Roberts captioned an Instagram post at the time. “We both thank you for all your well wishes and prayers. Proud of her and all fellow Thrivers for your grit and grace during a challenging time.”
The Alabama-born Roberts spent 15 years as an ESPN broadcaster before joining “Good Morning America” in 2005.
On Monday, Roberts reiterated she and Laign are “saying yes” to their next chapter before admitting, “I can’t believe I just said that.”
“I want people to know, we’ve already talked about it,” Roberts said. “It’s not like [Laign is] hearing this for the first time. … We’ve talked about it with our families and all that.”
