Jacksonville State to face Louisiana in New Orleans Bowl
Jacksonville State will play Louisiana in the 2023 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on Dec. 16, it was announced Sunday.
The Gamecocks (8-4) are in their first season as an FBS program, and were able to play in a bowl game because there were not enough six-win teams to fill all 82 slots. Under normal circumstances, an FBS transition team such as Jax State would not be eligible for the postseason.
Louisiana (6-6) is in the New Orleans Bowl for the second time in three years and sixth time overall. The Ragin’ Cajuns beat Marshall 36-21 in the 2021 game.
The 2023 New Orleans Bowl kicks off at 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 16. The game will be televised by ESPN.
