Suspect in slaying of Alabama pastor arrested in Arizona

A murder suspect wanted in the March slaying of an Alabama pastor was arrested Friday morning in Arizona.

Joseph Christopher, 40, was arrested by Mesa police in Maricopa County on a murder charge in the death of 41-year-old Kevin Burks, who was a pastor at Living Waters Christian Church in Opp, authorities told WDHN.

Burks was found dead in the kitchen of his Opp home on March 4.

Opp police identified Christopher as a suspect in the slaying.

Police obtained a warrant for the suspect but later learned he fled Alabama and was living in Arizona, WDHN reported.

Christopher is facing unrelated charges in Arizona and is expected to be extradited to Alabama once his Arizona charges are resolved, according to the network.
