Auburn flips 5-star Phenix City WR Cam Coleman from Texas A&M after Jimbo Fisher firing

In arguably the biggest win on the recruiting trail yet for Hugh Freeze in his Auburn tenure, Cam Coleman, a 5-star rated wide receiver from Phenix City, as first reported by On3.

He flipped his commitment from Texas A&M to Auburn after the Aggies fired head coach Jimbo Fisher.

Even after Coleman announced his commitment to Texas A&M in July in a somewhat surprising decision with Auburn considered the favorite, Auburn continued to push for him.

Freeze attended one of Coleman’s games at Central in Phenix City. Coleman also attended Auburn’s game against Georgia and plans to attend the Iron Bowl, according to 247Sports.

Coleman is a consensus top-10 recruit in the class of 2024 and is now the highest-ranked player in Auburn’s 2024 group. He and fellow Alabama native and 5-star wide receiver Perry Thompson will anchor what could be a defining recruiting class for Freeze and this new Auburn coaching staff.

He was the top recruit in an Aggies class that was ranked 9th in the country before Fisher was fired. Fisher’s Texas A&M teams had always been filled with highly rated recruits, but were not able to translate recruiting success into the championship-contending football team desired with a salary as high as Fisher’s was.

According to the 247Sports class calculator, Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class is anticipated to jump from 16th in the country to 11th.

With Coleman’s commitment, Auburn has now landed the top-ranked player in Alabama and three of the top five players in the state (Coleman, Thompson and linebacker Demarcus Riddick).

Auburn’s wide receiver room has struggled mightily in the first year under Freeze. So bringing in two of the top six wide receiver recruits in America per 247Sports in Coleman and Thompson would provide an immediate jolt to Auburn’s offense going forward.
