Mississippi State reveals Mike Leach tribute helmet

Mississippi State on Monday revealed its Mike Leach tribute helmets for Monday’s Reliaquest Bowl vs. Illinois.

Leach died Dec. 13 at 61 due to complications of a heart condition. Monday’s game will be the Bulldogs’ first since his passing.

Leach was known as “The Pirate” after his intense interest in the subject was revealed some years ago. Mississippi State’s helmet logo features a maroon pirate flag, with “ML” underneath crossed swords.

Bulldogs defensive coordinator Zach Arnett was elevated to head coach on Dec. 15. Mississippi State is 8-4 entering the Reliaquest Bowl, which takes place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, with kickoff set for 11 a.m.
