Former Auburn AD Allen Greene hired at Tennessee

Former Auburn athletics director Allen Greene has been hired at Tennessee, the school announced Thursday.

Greene will serve as Senior Deputy Athletics Director under Volunteers AD Danny White. Greene had been working in a similar position at Ole Miss for the last year-plus.

“One of the key objectives from our strategic plan ‘Rise Glorious’ was to attract goal-driven and intensely competitive teammates to strengthen our family-oriented, innovative and fearless culture and Allen is a tremendous addition to our leadership team,” White said. “Allen’s one of the most dynamic and engaging leaders I’ve been fortunate to work alongside, and I am thrilled to be able to add one of the stars of our profession and his wonderful family to Rocky Top.”

Greene was Auburn’s AD from 2018-22, when he stepped down with five months remaining on his contract. During his tenure with the Tigers, he fired football coach Gus Malzahn in December 2020 then made the disastrous hire of Bryan Harsin shortly thereafter.

The 46-year-old Greene was also AD at Buffalo from 2015-18. He played baseball at Notre Dame in the late 1990s.
