More than a week away from action didn’t seem to bother Auburn junior Johni Broome.

After scoring just 10 points against Alabama A&M on Nov. 21, Broome tripled that effort as Auburn went on to sprint pass Virginia Tech in a 74-57 win in the ACC/SEC Challenge from Neville Arena Wednesday night.

Broome’s 30 point-effort was paired with 13 rebounds, helping him punch his third double-double this season. Both marks were the most of any game this season for Broome.

Wednesday night’s performance from Broome was the first 30-point performance from an Auburn player since Jabari Smith against Vanderbilt on Feb. 16, 2022.

Coming into Wednesday’s date with the Hokies, Broome’s career high at Auburn was 27 points, which he scored against South Carolina on Jan. 21, 2023.

Before transferring to The Plains, however, Broome turned in a 32-point performance during his second season at Morehead State in a game against Murray State on March 5, 2022.

Broome’s big man counterpart in Wednesday’s game, Virginia Tech’s Lynn Kidd, was held to just six points and seven rebounds.
