Ex-Madison County sheriff’s deputy charged with stealing narcotics evidence

A former Madison County sheriff’s deputy was arrested on 12 charges stemming from the theft of narcotics evidence, the agency said Wednesday.

Alex Huddleston, who was placed on administrative leave Oct. 23 pending an internal investigation, resigned before the investigation was completed, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation continued, and a separate criminal investigation was opened into possible mishandling of narcotics evidence.

Huddleston was arrested Nov. 17.

The Madison County District Attorney’s Office was notified of Huddleston’s arrest and is reviewing any cases involving the former deputy, the sheriff’s office said.

“To be a professional law enforcement officer, you must have integrity, and once that is compromised, there is no place for you in this profession,” said Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner. “The Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate any employee being involved in criminal behavior. Incidents like these give law enforcement a black eye, but the Sheriff’s Office will always deal with these situations appropriately and hold those responsible accountable”.

Huddleston was charged with five counts of tampering with evidence, two counts of drug possession and five counts of theft of property charges, according to WAAY.

His bond was set at $20,000, the station reported.
