Alabama woman arrested for allegedly striking woman with hammer over pain medication

A Lauderdale County woman allegedly attacked another woman with a hammer over pain medication.

According to court documents, Joanna Welborn, 57, of Spruce Pine, was arrested Monday afternoon.

The incident happened on Mill Ridge Drive in Florence, according to an incident report. The victim told authorities Welborn knocked on her door and asked for a pain pill, saying she was suffering from toothache.

As the woman went to get the pill, Welborn allegedly attacked her with a hammer, striking her in the forehead. Welborn then struck the pill bottle, breaking it, before leaving.

The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.
