An investigation is underway after a fatal shooting late Tuesday in Montgomery.

Police on Wednesday identified the victim as Melvin Washington Jr. He was 39 and lived in Montgomery.

Officers and fire medics responded at 10 p.m. to the 800 block of Oak Street on a report of a person shot.

Maj. Saba Coleman said Washington was pronounced dead on the scene.
