Alabama kicker Will Reichard named finalist for Lou Groza Award
Alabama football kicker Will Reichard was named a finalist for the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award on Tuesday. The award goes to college football’s best kicker.
Reichard was one of three finalists for the honor, along with Graham Nicholson of Miami of Ohio and Jose Pizano of UNLV. The winner will be announced on Dec. 8 during the College Football Awards, which will be aired on ESPN.
The Crimson Tide’s kicker returned to school this past season hoping to better his NFL stock. He tied the NCAA’s all-time points record during Alabama’s win over Auburn on Saturday and will likely hold it outright before the season ends.
“I don’t really know how many points I am away from it,” Reichard said in early November. “I think when my career’s over I’ll really care about it but right now, not too concerned about it honestly. I’m more focused on being able to play well this week and kind of continue to prepare to play well and continue to practice well, continue to grow.”
The Hoover native has made 18 of his 21 field goal attempts this season. His long for the year is 51, which he did against Texas.
Reichard and the other finalists for the award will be honored Dec. 4 at the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Awards Banquet in Palm Beach County, Florida. He’ll have his next chance to break the NCAA record on Saturday, when Alabama faces Georgia in the SEC championship game.
