NFL Monday night: Bears top Vikings without a touchdown

Entering Monday night’s game, 28 teams had played a game in the 2023 NFL season without scoring a touchdown. None won. On Monday night, the Chicago Bears did not score a touchdown. But four field goals by Cairo Santos, including one with 10 seconds to play, were enough to beat the Minnesota Vikings 12-10.

Chicago intercepted Joshua Dobbs four times before the Vikings quarterback produced the game’s only touchdown on a 17-yard pass to tight end T.J. Hockenson with 5:54 to play.

The touchdown came after the first of the two fumbles lost in the fourth quarter by Bears quarterback Justin Fields.

But on Chicago’s final possession, Fields connected with wide receiver D.J. Moore for a 36-yard gain, the longest play of the game, to advance the Bears to the Minnesota 13-yard line with 55 seconds to play. Santos followed his field goals of 25, 39 and 55 yards with a 30-yarder for the winning points.

Fields completed 27-of-37 passes for 217 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Dobbs completed 22-of-32 passes for 185 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions.

Five players from Alabama high schools and colleges got on the field in the Chicago-Minnesota game:

· Bears fullback Khari Blasingame (Buckhorn) made one tackle on special teams.

· Eddie Jackson (Alabama) started at safety for the Bears. Jackson made one tackle and broke up one pass.

· Bears wide receiver Velus Jones Jr. (Saraland) had a 28-yard kickoff return.

· Bears cornerback Christian Matthew (Samford) did not record any stats. Chicago elevated Matthew from its practice squad to make him eligible to play.

· Vikings running back DeWayne McBride (UAB) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Darnell Mooney (Gadsden City) started at wide receiver for the Bears. Mooney had two receptions for 6 yards.

· Vikings quarterback Nick Mullens (Spain Park) dressed for the game but did not play.

After suffering a setback to its postseason chances, Minnesota enters its bye week with a 6-6 record. The Vikings return to the field against the Las Vegas Raiders at 3:05 p.m. CST Dec. 10 at Allegiant Field in Las Vegas.

At 4-8 after its first victory over an NFC North rival since Nov. 25, 2021, Chicago also is off in Week 13. The Bears come back against the Detroit Lions at noon Dec. 10 at Soldier Field in Chicago.
