Etowah joins list of teams looking for a new football coach

Add Etowah to the list of high schools in Alabama officially looking for a new head football coach.

Attalla City Schools superintendent Jeff Colegrove informed AL.com on Monday morning that the Blue Devils have officially posted an opening for a head football coach.

Etowah placed Matt Glover on administrative leave on Sept. 7. No reason was given for the move at the time. Blake Bone finished the season as interim coach.

“We are looking for someone who can build upon the rich traditions of our football program with a vision for success as well as dedicated to developing young student-athletes into outstanding individuals both on and off the field,” Colegrove wrote in an email. “Obviously, we would like to have a coach in place sooner than later, but we will take as much time as needed to find the right fit.”

Colegrove said interested candidates should contact principal Ryan McClendon at [email protected].

The Blue Devils finished 3-8 in 2023. They made the Class 4A playoffs but lost at West Morgan 56-0 in the first round.

Glover went 8-4 for Etowah in 2022 and reached the second round of the playoffs. The Blue Devils were 0-2 with losses to Springville and Fort Payne this year when Glover was put on leave.

He’s also been head coach at Moody (2006-2008), Pinson Valley (2009-2016) and St. Clair County (2017-2018).

Other teams currently looking for new head coaches include Opelika, Orange Beach, Robertsdale, Percy Julian, JAG and Baldwin County.
