2 men killed in separate Sunday shootings in Fultondale and Graysville
Two people were killed in separate shootings Sunday, one in Fultondale and the other in Graysville.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victims as Alexander Rombley-Fernandez, 30, of Birmingham, and Dimetri Leon Phillips, 30, of Cordova.
Authorities said Rombley-Fernandez was shot at 4:42 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of Stonefield Drive in Fultondale.
Fultondale police Sgt. John Tanks said the victim was seen on video driving in the Hundred Oaks mobile home community.
“It looked like he was looking for somebody,’’ Tanks said.
As he was driving, another vehicle pulled up beside him and fired several rounds into the car. The unknown suspect then left.
Rombley-Fernandez was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:11 a.m.
Authorities said the victim did not live in the neighborhood no one there seemed to know who he was.
No arrests have been made.
In Graysville, Phillips was killed about 6:15 p.m.
Authorities said the victim was in the driver’s seat of a vehicle at a stop sign on Highway 79 and Main Street. Witnesses saw someone shooting into his vehicle.
He was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:18 p.m.
No arrests have been made.
The slayings marked the first homicide this year for Graysville and the third for Fultondale.
In all of Jefferson County there have been 170 homicides, including the two on Sunday.
