Philadelphia Eagles bring back former Alabama prep star
The Philadelphia Eagles have restored wide receiver Quez Watkins to their active roster from injured reserve, the NFL team announced on Saturday.
The former Athens High School standout has missed the previous five games because of a hamstring injury, which also had caused Watkins to miss the third and fourth games of the season.
Watkins has four receptions for 21 yards in three games in 2023 after posting 76 receptions for 1,001 yards and four touchdowns during the 2021 and 2022 seasons for Philadelphia.
After the wide receiver went on IR, the Eagles signed another former Alabama high school standout, Julio Jones from Foley. The Alabama alumnus has four receptions for 16 yards and one touchdown in four games.
The Eagles play the Buffalo Bills at 3:25 p.m. CST Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
The Kansas City Chiefs also will have two players with Alabama football roots available on Sunday who were not eligible before Saturday. The Chiefs elevated running back La’Mical Perine (Theodore) and wide receiver Montrell Washington (Samford) from their practice squad on Sunday, when Kansas City plays the Las Vegas Raiders at 3:25 p.m. at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Washington has played in four games and Perine has played in one for the Chiefs this season.
The Tennessee Titans placed offensive lineman Chris Hubbard on injured reserve on Saturday. The former UAB standout started nine of the Titans’ 10 games this season at right tackle. But a biceps injury has sidelined the 10-year veteran.
