Nick Saban jokes when explaining Jalen Milroeâs game-winning TD to beat Auburn
Finish.
That was the one thing going through Jalen Milroe’s mind when he threw what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown pass on fourth and 31 to Isaiah Bond as Alabama defeated Auburn 27-24 on Saturday night.
“Believe it or not, we work on that,” Alabama coach Nick Saban right after the game. “It was just a great throw by Jalen, and a great catch by Isaiah. We work on it, but you’re throwing it up for grabs really. We came down with it.”
The usually business-like Saban couldn’t help but crack a smile when he put the play in context when playing at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
“There’s been some weird stuff happen here, and this is the first time I can remember it going in our favor,” he said with a laugh.
Milroe finished 16 of 24 for 259 yards and two scores.
“Never give up,” Milroe said. “Always fall back on your training. It’s all about mental toughness. That’s what is going to get you through a game. Not one quarter, two quarters, three quarters. It’s going to take all 60 minutes. That’s exactly what took place.”
The Tide now travels to play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.
“It’s a great win for our team,” Saban said. “It’s a great win for our state. It’s a great win for our fans. But for next week, we have to do better.”
